Ground stop lifted at Detroit Metro Airport after ‘emergency’

Airport says crews responded to ‘potential mechanical issue’

The FAA issued a ground stop at Detroit Metro Airport on Wednesday night for what it listed as an “aircraft emergency.”

It did not specify what type of emergency was causing the ground stop. The delay was not weather related. The ground stop was lifted around 7:20 p.m.

Sources tell Local 4 that it was a Delta charter plane without any passengers on board.

The ground stop was impacting incoming flights to the area.

The Wayne County Airport Authority released this statement:

“The Wayne County Airport Authority Fire Department responded Wednesday evening after a potential mechanical issue was reported on an aircraft. As a precaution, crews applied water to one of the aircraft’s engines. There were no injuries, and passengers were not in danger. The aircraft will undergo maintenance.
