Night of Forgiveness and spiritual reflection. While there is no single mandatory prayer, several beautiful supplications and practices are traditionally recommended to seek Allah’s mercy and blessings. 

Recommended Duas for Shab-e-Barat

• Dua for Forgiveness (Astaghfar):
  The most widely recited prayer on this night is for seeking pardon:
  • Arabic: اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ كَرِيمٌ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
  • Transliteration: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun kareemun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni
  • Translation: “O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, Generous, and You love forgiveness; therefore forgive me”.
• Comprehensive Dua for Well-being:
  Recited for health and protection in both worlds:
  • Transliteration: Allahumma inni as’aluka al-‘afwa wal-‘afiyata wal-mu’afata ad-da’imata fid-dunya wal-akhirah
  • Translation: “O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness, health, and permanent protection in this world and the Hereafter”.
• Dua for Love of Allah:
  Used to strengthen spiritual connection:
  • Transliteration: Allahumma inni as’aluka hubbaka wa hubba man yuhibbuka…
  • Translation: “O Allah! I ask You for Your Love, and the Love of those who Love You…”. 

Spiritual Practices & Nawafil

• Salat-ul-Tasbih: A highly recommended voluntary prayer believed to bring great rewards for forgiveness.
• Recitation of Surah Yaseen: Many scholars suggest reciting Surah Yaseen three times after Maghrib, each with a specific intention: for a long life, for protection from calamities, and for independence from everyone but Allah.
• General Dhikr: Engaging in abundant Istighfar (seeking forgiveness), reciting Durood Shareef, and Kalima Tayyibah throughout the night.
• Fasting: It is a common practice to fast on the day following the night (15th of Shaban) as an act of devotion.
